  • Installation: Yale Peabody Museum.
  • Location: New Haven, Connecticut, United States.
  • Industry: Museums.
  • Goal: Enhance visitor engagement and interaction within the Museum through advanced location-based services, digital guides and interactive learning.
Amuse x Navigine: Implementation results

Museums face significant challenges in creating engaging, interactive visitor experiences:

  • Static displays with limited interpretive materials.
  • Low visitor interaction and engagement.
  • No personalized, adaptive learning.
  • No way to track educational outcomes and visitor interests.

For the Yale Peabody Museum, this meant:

  • Visitor retention and understanding of exhibit content went down.
  • No opportunities for interactive, tech-based learning.
  • Needed a solution that could modernize visitor engagement while preserving educational integrity.

The problem was finding a digital solution that could marry advanced technology with museum exhibits, improve learning and provide a more dynamic, personalized museum experience.

Amuse, the app that helps curious people discover local arts and culture, and Navigine, a leader in location-based services, teamed up for a landmark project at the Yale Peabody Museum, one of America’s most historic natural history museums that reopened in April 2024 after a four-year renovation. This collaboration aims to transform how visitors engage with museums by blending Amuse’s interactive application and unique short-form content with Navigine’s specialized indoor positioning technology.

Amuse introduced a suite of digital tools to enhance the museum experience, enabling visitors to scan QR codes or download their mobile app for short videos, interactive trivia, surprising facts, and other extended content about the Museum’s collections. The app features accessible options such as visual and audio descriptions, screen reader-compatible text and images, and closed-captioned video, all enhanced with analytics that facilitate real-time adaptation of content based on visitor interactions.

Navigine contributed advanced location-based technologies to the application, focusing on providing precise indoor positioning. This positioning technology was seamlessly integrated into Amuse’s mapping system, enabling visitors to navigate the museum accurately while triggering relevant content as they explore the exhibits and enhancing the overall interactive experience.

Together, Amuse and Navigine are helping transform the visitor experience at the Yale Peabody Museum, setting a new standard for how technology can enhance interaction within cultural institutions.

Navigine x Amuse Museum Solution

Beacons and sensors were installed throughout the Yale Peabody Museum to enable precise indoor positioning and real-time location tracking using Navigine Indoor Navigation SDK. This SDK was integrated into the Amuse app, which provided the interactive digital map and content delivery developed by Amuse.

Seamless indoor to outdoor map

Content tailored to each exhibit, including short videos, interactive trivia, and fun facts, is developed by the Museum and linked to specific locations via QR codes. This setup allows the system to deliver contextually appropriate information as visitors move through the Museum, enhancing their engagement and learning experience.

The system operates by leveraging the indoor positioning data to activate the app’s content delivery, ensuring visitors receive a seamless and enriched educational journey as they explore the museum. This collaboration between Amuse's application and content solutions and Navigine's precise positioning technologies offers new ways for visitors to interact with the Yale Peabody Museum’s exhibits, making the experience more interactive and personalized.
