About the Company
- Industry:Shipbuilding
- A number of objects:170 objects.
- Implemented solutions:Navigine Tracking, Wi-Fi Access Points

The Problem
Asset Tracking Inefficiencies
The shipbuilding plant is huge; tools, materials, and equipment are constantly moved across different zones. Finding these assets was a big challenge, workers were spending a lot of time looking for these items. This was causing delays in production schedules and increasing operational costs.
Workforce Productivity Challenges
Managing a big workforce in a complex facility was a big challenge. Supervisors didn't have real-time visibility of workers and their movements, so task assignment and monitoring were ineffective. Lack of oversight was leading to inefficient workflows and longer project timelines.
Safety Concerns
The safety of workers in such a high-risk environment was a top priority, but existing measures were not enough. Without a real-time tracking system, monitoring worker compliance with safety protocols or responding to emergencies in time was hard. This increased the risk of accidents and injuries.

The Goals of the Solution
The main goals of the project were:
- Asset Management: Quickly locate tools and equipment to reduce production delays.
- Enhanced Safety: Monitor safety protocols, ensure rapid response to emergencies, and reduce workplace accidents.
- Workforce Optimization: Provide real-time tracking of worker movements for better task management.
The Solution Offered
The RTLS solution based on Wi-Fi improves the management of production processes, enhances employee safety, and helps to efficiently allocate resources without losses on a shipbuilding plant.
The Solution Implementation
Wi-Fi access points were installed in the work areas and across the shipbuilding plant to collect data on object movements. Navigine’s software was used to analyze the location and movement data of objects within small designated zones, providing various reports to help managers conduct meaningful actions.
The system operates by determining coordinates using Wi-Fi access points capable of transmitting data. By utilizing RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and MAC address (Media Access Control), the system accurately calculates the user's current location through a process called multilateration.

Key Advantages of Using Wi-Fi for Tracking
With the increasing demand for improved business performance in various industrial applications, Wi-Fi-based tracking solutions are becoming more relevant. They enable easy monitoring of employee movements and equipment, thereby enhancing workplace safety.
The advantages of the system include:
- The ability to utilize the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure for object tracking.
- Low energy consumption (devices only need a few seconds to find access points).
- Scalability of the platform with minimal manual intervention.
- Easy user interface with a variety of different reports and other instruments for analytics.
- No need for expensive maintenance of the infrastructure.
Navigine Tracking
A location-aware platform for Digital Transformation of Enterprises.
The system allows monitoring of zone occupancy and viewing heat maps of foot traffic. Various visualization variants are available for users, ranging from displaying movement routes of specific assets to metrics on visits to particular points of interest. Customized reports have facilitated transparent operational processes at the shipbuilding plant. Additionally, comprehensive analytics of personnel activities or object movement can be accessed through the interface, sent via email, and delivered via push notifications.

Results
- Determining individual risk coefficients for workers.
- Implementing control over the time spent in hazardous zones and access to them.
- Preventing incidents and reducing response time.
- Improving control over periodic operations (equipment checks, downtime monitoring).
This system enabled decision-makers to track equipment locations, monitor employee activities in real-time, optimize routes, and streamline production processes. It also allowed automatic responses to emergencies, tracking of employees entering dangerous zones, and sending alerts or calling security services.
The system reduced the number of injuries caused by moving equipment by 25%. Additionally, the company saved up to $5k per hour by reducing equipment downtime.
This project helped the company enhance production process efficiency, improve working conditions for employees, and increase workplace safety.
