Underground mines face high costs and safety risks due to fragmented tracking and lighting systems. IoT Automation, a leader in ruggedized infrastructure, partnered with Navigine to develop a solution for Unified Mining Navigation & Safety. The goal: transform essential lighting into an intelligent data mesh, eliminating blind spots and ensuring continuous visibility of personnel and assets in the most challenging tunnel environments.
Scope of Work
Navigine and IoT Automation deployed a converged RTLS and lighting solution across 1,200m linear tunnel segments using FireFly and DragonFly luminaires. By embedding BLE modules and UPS backups directly into the lighting hardware, the system maintains Unified Mining Navigation & Safety even during power outages. The platform provides real-time zone-level tracking, automated safety geofencing, and bi-directional emergency signaling via the lighting grid.
